How does the County Superintendent of Schools differ from a District Superintendent?

The County Superintendent of Schools manages the County Office of Education, providing support to districts, while a district superintendent manages their individual district.

As County Superintendent, I will work in partnership with districts, families and the community to focus on:

Academic Success

Learning to read, write, do math, and understand science and history is critical for our students to be able to navigate today’s world. I’m committed to partnering with school leaders and educators to strengthen teacher training, evaluate and improve curriculum, and ensure all students have access to the tools they need to learn. I will also work closely with families and community members to provide resources, engagement opportunities and innovative solutions that support student learning.

Prepare Students for Future Careers

Students should graduate from San Benito County schools understanding the many career options available and with the knowledge and skills necessary to move onto college, trade schools, the military, or a career. By partnering with districts, businesses and community organizations, we can provide opportunities such as job shadowing, internships and experiences that motivate students while also preparing them for meaningful careers.

 Safe & Supportive Schools

Students and staff deserve to learn and work in a safe environment, free from bullying, school violence, and substance abuse. Parents should also be able to send their children to school without worrying about their safety. I am dedicated to working with districts, families and community organizations to develop effective programs and policies that ensure our schools are safe places to learn and grow.

Fiscal Responsbility

As stewards of taxpayer dollars, it is our duty to spend our funds wisely. This includes prioritizing expenses that have a direct, positive impact on students and student learning. By working collaboratively with districts to identify grants, joint projects, and cost-sharing opportunities, while also assessing the effectiveness of existing programs, we can maximize the funds we have and focus our efforts on actions that improve student learning.
